Dubai Flight Returns to Trichy Due to Technical Problem
An Air India Express flight bound for Dubai was forced to make an emergency landing at Trichy International Airport on Monday evening due to a technical issue. The flight, carrying approximately 160 passengers, experienced the problem shortly after takeoff.
Flight Details and Timeline
- Flight Number: IXO61
- Scheduled Departure: 12:45 PM
- Actual Departure: 1:55 PM (delayed)
- Emergency Landing: 3:53 PM
Fuel Dumping and Passenger Concerns
Following the discovery of the technical snag, the flight circled the airspace over Trichy and Pudukottai for approximately two hours to dump fuel. This procedure is standard practice to reduce the aircraft's weight for a safer landing.
Relatives and friends awaiting the flight's arrival in Dubai became concerned when online flight tracking platforms indicated that the aircraft had not left Trichy. Passengers onboard, including relatives of former Nagapattinam MLA Thamimum Ansari, alerted him to the situation.
Alternative Arrangements
The aircraft involved was identified as a narrow-body Boeing 738. Airport officials have stated that alternative arrangements are being made to transport the stranded passengers to Dubai.
